The Apollo 55000-317APO is a Series 65 standard optical smoke detector that senses smoke via an internal pulsing LED and a photo-diode set at an obtuse angle, so smoke entering the chamber scatters light onto the diode and triggers alarm. It is well suited to slow-burning, smoldering fires typical of bedrooms and escape routes, is unaffected by wind or atmospheric pressure changes, and its LED indicator glows white at rest and switches to red in alarm.
