The DMP 270 is a network transient suppression module that protects a DMP fire/security panel's Ethernet connection from surges arriving over the network cabling. In UL-listed installations, the Model 270 is required whenever the network switch is not located in the same room as the panel, since that separation is exactly where an induced surge on the Ethernet run could otherwise reach the panel's network port.
