The Edwards 74347U is a red, outdoor-rated surface-mount backbox used to house fire alarm notification appliances -- such as horns, strobes, or bells -- in exterior or wet locations. Where a standard 4-inch square by 1-1/2-inch deep electrical box is used for dry, indoor mounting, the 74347U (along with the related 449 box) provides the weatherproof enclosure required for the same appliance mounted outdoors.
