The Faraday 8741 is an air duct monitoring housing that mounts directly to HVAC ductwork to hold a duct-mount smoke detector, sampling air drawn through the duct via its intake and exhaust tubes to catch smoke being carried through the air handling system. Faraday became a Siemens brand after Siemens acquired Cerberus Pyrotronics (which had earlier acquired Faraday) in 1998, and the 8741 housing is named directly in Siemens' own installation instructions as one of the units its FDBZ-WT weatherproof enclosure was built to protect.
