The Kidde KI-IB is a smoke/heat detector mounting base with a built-in short-circuit isolator module. Wired into an addressable signaling line circuit, the isolator continuously monitors the loop and automatically opens the circuit around a wiring short, keeping every other device on the loop online instead of taking the whole zone out of service. The detector head snaps into the base the same way as Kidde's standard bases, so swapping a head for maintenance or replacement doesn't require rewiring.
