The System Sensor OSI-R-SS is a conventional, single-ended reflective-type beam smoke detector that combines an infrared transmitter and receiver in one housing, aimed across open space at a separate 8-inch reflector rather than requiring a matched receiver unit on the far wall. It detects smoke by measuring the obscuration of the reflected infrared beam and includes an integral sensitivity test feature, making it well suited to large open areas with high ceilings -- warehouses, atriums, gymnasiums -- where spot-type detectors would need many more devices to get equivalent coverage.
